Your trip starts from Fes, driving south towards the desert. You’ll pass through the Middle Atlas Mountains and cedar forests where you might see Barbary apes (monkeys). Then, you’ll stop in Midelt, a town known for apples and fossils. After lunch, you’ll drive through the beautiful Ziz Valley, full of palm trees. You’ll arrive in Merzouga by sunset, near the big Erg Chebbi sand dunes, and stay overnight in a hotel.
Wake up early to see the amazing sunrise over the sand dunes. After breakfast in Merzouga, you’ll drive northwest. You’ll reach Todra Gorge, a huge canyon with very high cliffs, where you can take a walk. Afterwards, you’ll continue to Dades Valley, famous for its interesting rock formations called “monkey fingers.” You’ll stay overnight in a guesthouse there.
After breakfast in Dades Valley, you’ll start your drive back to Fes. You might stop in Rissani to see its traditional market (if it’s a market day). Then, you’ll travel through the Ziz Valley again and have lunch in Midelt. Finally, you’ll pass through Azrou’s cedar forests before arriving back in Fes by evening, which is the end of your desert trip.
