3 days desert tour from Marrakech

Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley

Your 3-day Marrakech desert tour starts at 8:00 am. Pickup will be from your riad or location in Marrakech. First, our journey takes us out of the city. We then travel through the High Atlas mountains. Here, we will reach a high point called the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass, which is 2,260 meters (7,415 feet) high. Along the way, opportunities arise to see lovely Berber villages.

Next, the itinerary includes a visit to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This is an old fortified village. Indeed, it is known for its unique Moroccan building style. Many famous movies were filmed here. For instance, these include “Kingdom of Heaven” (2005) and “Game of Thrones” (2012). You will have plenty of time to explore this historic Kasbah.

After a tasty lunch, the tour heads south. We travel along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” towards Dades Valley. Our route passes places like Ouarzazate and Skoura. Additionally, we go through the Valley of Roses in Kalaat M’Gouna. Upon reaching Dades Valley in the afternoon, your guide will show you some impressive rock formations if there’s time. These are known as the “monkey fingers.” Otherwise, this unique place can be visited the next day. Finally, you will spend the night in a comfortable hotel that you choose.

Day 2: Dades Valley → Tinghir Oasis → Todra Gorge → Merzouga Desert

The second day of your desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga begins with a tasty breakfast. Then, the journey continues to Tineghir. You will stop at a scenic spot. This spot offers views of lovely Berber villages. Moreover, it showcases a palm tree-filled oasis. Nearby, there is a 300-meter-high canyon, known as Toudgha Gorge. A walk is planned beneath this deep canyon. Afterwards, the drive continues to the Merzouga desert.

Upon reaching Merzouga in the afternoon, your camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes will begin. During this trek, a stop will be made on a high dune. From here, you can watch a breathtaking sunset over the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Later, the camel ride continues to the camp. A warm welcome with a cup of tea awaits you. You will then have some free time to relax. Following a delightful Moroccan dinner, you can sit around a campfire. Berber friends will play drums. They will also share stories under the starry night sky. Ultimately, you will spend the night in a luxury desert camp that you choose.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert → Draa River → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

Today, we highly recommend waking up early. You can watch a breathtaking sunrise from the nearest high dune to the camp. After enjoying a delicious breakfast, you can return to Merzouga town. You can go either by camel or in a comfortable 4×4 vehicle. From there, we will head back to Marrakech. However, this time, we will take a different route. We will travel along the Draa River. This is Morocco’s longest river, stretching 1100 kilometers.

Feel free to ask your driver to make stops whenever you want. We will stop for lunch in Ouarzazate. Then, we will drive to Marrakech via the High Atlas mountains. Finally, we will drop you off at your accommodation. This marks the end of this memorable 3-day Marrakech desert tour.
