Your tour starts in Marrakech. After checking into your hotel (riad), go to the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa square with its snake charmers and food stalls. See the Koutoubia Mosque and have a welcome dinner with Moroccan food.
Explore Marrakech’s history. Visit Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, and Ben Youssef Madrasa (an old school). In the afternoon, see the Majorelle Garden and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. Later, relax at a rooftop café overlooking the old city (medina).
Drive from Marrakech over the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Visit Ait Ben Haddou, a famous old clay village (you might have seen it in movies). Continue to Ouarzazate, known for movie-making, and tour the film studios.
Travel along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” to Todra Gorge, a huge canyon with very high cliffs, great for walking. Then, continue to Dades Valley, known for its interesting rock shapes called “Monkey Fingers.” Stay overnight in a local guesthouse.
Drive to Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. At sunset, ride camels into the desert. You’ll arrive at a desert camp for an evening with Berber music, stargazing, and a traditional Moroccan dinner.
Wake up early to see a beautiful desert sunrise. After returning to Merzouga, visit Rissani’s market. Then, drive through the Ziz Valley, full of palm trees, to Midelt, a town located between two mountain ranges.
Drive through the Cedar Forests in the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you might see wild monkeys near Azrou. Stop in Ifrane, a town that looks like it’s in Switzerland. Then, arrive in Fes, an important cultural city in Morocco.
Explore the old city (medina) of Fes. You’ll see Al Quaraouiyine University (one of the oldest in the world), the Chouara Tanneries (where leather is dyed), and Bou Inania Madrasa. Also, visit the Jewish Quarter (Mellah) and the Royal Palace. Enjoy a farewell dinner in a traditional riad.
You’ll be taken to Fes Airport for your flight, filled with memories of your Morocco trip.
